Sport is sport and drugs out please!

Ben Cousins
We have the West Coast dope heads opps I mean Eagles admitting they have a booze and drug problem, that is all well and good but why did you leave it this late to make a stand against it and the same can be said about dumping Ben Cousins. Why wait this late? I think it would have been easier to deal with his problems when he was 18-20 than now when he is 28. Let me stat that I enjoy watching him play but think he is stuck up.
I also have to laugh and finally think that the AFL has a problem with Andrew Dimetriou as the head honcho with his mini-me Angry Anderson as his back up. These two are the saddest excuses I have seen as AFL bosses. The other day John Howard says that there should be a zero tollarance of drugs in sport and then Andrew comes up saying that they are going to stick by their current policy??? Hello dumbo, it is not working especially when betting five dollars is a greater crime than doing something illegal in Australia. I do not agree with gambling but gambling is legal were drugs aint, so name the idiots who take them and get them some help. Three strikes is too much as they could be hooked by then, let the club know so they can get him some help.

Yes, as soon as a player is detected as taking illicit drugs there should be a punishment - it should not be three strikes before they are publicly named and outed. What would happen if one of the players who tested positive overdosed and died because they had not stopped using drugs after initially being caught and only punished with a slap on the wrist? There would be hell to pay. What is needed is perhaps a smaller suspension for a first offence, such as 12 weeks - and for any subsequent offence they should receive at least two years. While any player found taking performance enhancing drugs should be immediately put out for two years - which is in line with what is currently in place.
