Frew 1504: The Great Deception pt1
Starting from 28th March is a new series featuring the first and second Phantoms. The first part deals with how the first Phantom stops his reign of being the Avenger in favour of being by his wifes side as she inherits the throne from her dead father.
The idea of the Phantom giving up his reign of being the Phantom has been explored before by Lee Falk called “The Normal Life” which had the Phantom actually leaving the deep woods, Rex and Guran and trying to be a ‘normal person’. Thankfully the call of defeating evil in all forms was too strong and in “The Great Deception” it is the same for the first Phantom.
This part goes to show how dedicated the first is to his wife and son and while its good to see, I was surprised to see how easily he gave up being the Phantom. What else was curious to see was that Turan went with the Phantom, was the purpose of that? The first Phantom was leaving the Deep Woods forever and Turan was needed to be home looking after the tribe. It was just curious.
This story flowed easy and while the Phantom leaving the Jungle is an interesting plot the way the story flowed it was not really like the Phantom actually disappeared and he stopped being the Phantom. Maybe they could have explored the idea further.
Joan Boix is not my favourite artist (artwork dissected) but his work hear is quite nice. He uses a good balance of black shading for us Frew readers and im sure it still looks effective for the Egmont readers.

Hi Germ,
I am a Phantom Fan living in Canberra and am also a Christian. My wife is from Perth and we visit there once a year. I’d be interested in giving you a call and maybe buying some of your doubles when I am there in December/January this year.
