Reasons why there is a Lack of Vision among churches
Maybe its just me or maybe its not but who finds that todays churches lack vision?
I am not saying me or my church is perfect because its not as I attend there and I know I am not. BUT I just read a blog article by a guy called Perry Noble, I do not want to critise the poor guy but his latest article I have read is so off the mark that I am shaking my head.
Anyway his recent article “15 Signs That You (Or Your Church) Lacks Vision” highlights some ways you can tell if you or the church lacks vision, let me list them:
- You worry more about keeping the people in your church happy then you do about pleasing God and speaking the truth.
- You’ve never spent sleepless nights wondering, “How in heck are we going to do this? Seriously, I told our church we were going to do WHAT?”
- When you go to a conference and come back and announce “we are changing everything” because you have received INSPIRATION not REVELATION.
- You allow people with money to dictate the way you spend your time and the direction of the church.
- You continually call other churches begging them for money.
- No one has ever left your church.
- You think the answer to every problem is, “If we just had more money.”
- You spend more time on other churches websites than you do reading your Bible.
- You can do everything you have in front of you WITHOUT the help of God AND others.
- You always find something wrong with ministries that are seeing fruit.
- When your youth group wants to do something you make them have a bake sale in front of Wal Mart–but when your senior adults want to do something the church covers the cost; after all, they are tithers! (And that same church will wonder why “the youth don’t come to church anymore.”)
- Nothing in regards to how you lead has changed in the past year.
- Everyone in your church is perfect. (If you are truly reaching lost people then you will discover that ministry is messy.)
- God hasn’t asked you to give something up.
- No one is ever challenged to radically rearrange their lives to be a part of what God is doing.
Ok in studying these 15 reasons, one third of them have something to do with money. Yes money is important but money is not what sees a church loose its vision for the unsaved and creating a refuge for people. GOD makes these things happen not money.
If I was to rewrite the reasons why churches lack a vision I would include these reasons instead of having limited resources:
- No numbers of people getting saved and being set free of their sin
- No one getting healed
- No one rising up
- No new ministries/ bible studies or home groups being started
- No praying
As you can tell these examples are all fruits of a church in a revival and that is the point I am making. If you do not see any fruits of revival, the church probably has lost its vision. What do you think?
