Massachusetts artist Rachel Cassiani creates abstract landscape paintings inspired by the sandy cliffs, shores and blue skies of her local beaches. Each bold oil painting manages to capture the essential elements of the tranquil scenes with streamlined shapes and vivid colors.
“I have always used art as a form of therapy”, admits Cassiani. “My process on each painting begins with a photo that I take outdoors on trails, beaches, fields, etc. Soon after I gather my inspiration, I draw my idea on a blank canvas, then choose a color palette that is generally quite vibrant. “
Rendered on a variety of canvases with geometric shapes, Cassiani decides on the color and composition by choosing the most dominant hues and shapes of the actual landscape. His abstract interpretations exaggerate the rock formations, hills and clouds in the sky with clean shapes filled with unique and vibrant pigments. Cassiani says, “For me colors bring joy and a sense of calm. My main hope is to create a piece that gives its audience a joyful energy. “
