Whether depicting a floating group of stairs and balconies or a living space separated by different forces of gravity, a new series of paintings by Cinta Vidal (previously) establishes multiple perceptions of reality within ‘a single work. The artist, who lives in the small town of Cardedeu near Barcelona, favors biased perspectives that turn domestic objects and inverted architecture, and his collection of oil paintings that includes Concrete use that same style of distortion to challenge notions of individual space and community and the fortified structures that people build in their minds.

Rendered in a subdued color palette of grays and soft blues, the compositions precisely organize multiple routes and lifestyles in unique cement buildings. Each work “reminds viewers that they are not alone and that they pay more attention to the many paths of life existing among the masses.”

Organized by Thinkspace Projects, Concrete will be on view from October 2 to December 26 as part of Structure, a series of personal exhibitions at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History. Vidal is also painting a large outdoor mural nearby to accompany his smaller works, and you can follow his progress on Instagram.
