Featuring thick layers of oil paint in pastel tones, Charlotte fitzgeraldThe impasto landscape paintings perfectly capture the serene beauty of her open-air scenes. The artist often uses a palette knife to apply his pigment, which allows him to create paintings full of rich textures and countless colors.
Each vibrant canvas seems to belong to the paintings of French impressionists such as Auguste Renoir or Claude Monet. However, Fitzgerald’s contemporary artistic flair is distinctly his own. She calls her style “Fusion” because it is influenced by many art movements and rendered using a combination of techniques. “People ask me if my work is Expressionism or Impressionism, based on a real or made-up place, or if I use a knife or a brush. And I say, “Yes. ” she says. “My work is an amalgamation of any painting tool or philosophy that suits my purpose.”
From fields of flowers represented by short dotted lines of paint to clouds painted as vast blends of pastel hues, up close, each scene appears as a myriad of abstract shapes. However, a step back reveals how Fitzgerald perfectly captures light, shadow, and form with his expressive, textured paint strokes.
