Exhibition of landscape paintings by Sarah Delany opens at Cahir Arts Gallery

A new exhibition titled: Landscape Paintings by Sarah Delany opened at the Cahir Arts Gallery last Friday evening with a large group of art lovers present to witness the occasion and view the beautiful paintings. The exhibition will last until May 28.
Sarah Delany is an award-winning artist living in Laois and this is her sixth solo exhibition. She began her artistic training at the Byam Shaw School of Painting and Drawing in London, where she obtained a degree in fine art. Since then, she has established herself as a gifted painter specializing first in animals and now in landscapes. Sarah intuitively applies her paint in broad, thick, and very lively brushstrokes that not only convey the essence of her subject, but reveal her understanding of what painting is. Sarah’s work has been exhibited in England and Ireland and is part of private and public collections.
Sarah made the following statement: “After a series of life-changing events, I began to focus entirely on landscape painting, working in oils in situ as well as from sketches and photographs. I see nature as a powerful healer of loss and trauma. The vastness and ephemeral quality of the landscape inspire and inform my paintings. I look at the landscape and find humility, hope, sometimes heartache – the battered clouds and dark skies seem to portend drastic change. My soul feels inexplicably connected to nature as I paint in situ. The fragility and impermanence of life are laid bare in a way that heals and transforms. Although these paintings depict real places, the places are not named to allow the viewer to develop their own sense of place and have a unique personal experience in a familiar landscape of their own.
“The landscape belongs to the beholder”, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Admission is free and Cahir Arts is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Monday.
