Artists around the world are always looking to break norms and find unconventional means of expression. Self-taught artists Brenda Delgado is one of them because she uses dead cockroaches to paint on it!
Many would recoil at the sight of dead insects, but not Delgado who wants his fellow artists “not to be afraid to explore your talents and challenge you to do things you think are impossible.”
The 30-year-old Caloocan City resident in Manila came up with the bizarre idea as she swept dead cockroaches from her workspace. She stopped when she noticed how shiny and smooth the cockroach wings were. At that point, she wondered how dead cockroaches could be used as a web and pursued the idea.
Delgado is not the first person to paint on insects. Mexican artists Christian Ramos paint protest paintings about cockroaches.
This artist paints works of art on the bodies of dead cockroaches, including a replica of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.
“To my fellow artists, don’t be afraid to explore your talents and challenge yourself to do the things you think are impossible,” said Brenda Delgado. pic.twitter.com/GEPEbxSCCT

Delgado uses oil paints to paint beautiful scenes, including Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” on dead insects. His designs have gained popularity online as people have become fascinated with his work.
In recent years, Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night has seen many re-creations in pop culture. Artists painted the 1889 masterpiece on everything from tapestries to grains of rice to wares. In 2016 the painting was recreated on water using Ebru, which is Turkey’s traditional painting art form.
