Mom by day and artist by night, Canadian realist painter Sarah McKendry first picked up a brush in 2008 and hasn’t looked back. The talented self-taught artist creates beautiful landscape paintings that capture the dark, misty forests and majestic mountain scenes of British Columbia.
Browsing through McKendry’s online portfolio, it’s hard to believe that every piece is rendered in oil paint. The works resemble a photograph and are full of soft, lifelike details. Each canvas prompts the viewer to take a closer look and appreciate the stillness of the scene, almost as if it were in nature itself. It’s by design. “My landscapes are extensions of distant memories,” McKendry explains, “and I try to paint them in such a way that you can almost feel the cool air coming out of the room.”
Since McKendry started painting, she has now turned her passion into a career. “It’s an amazing feeling to be able to paint as a full-time profession,” she says, “and having it so easily woven into the fabric of raising our two young boys is something I am more than grateful for. . “
If you want to learn to paint like McKendry, you can sign up for her Skills sharing course where she will guide you through the fundamentals of the oil medium. “I am incredibly excited to share every ounce of wisdom I have learned over the past eleven years of my creative journey with each of you,” the artist explains. “This medium is pure magic, and I can’t wait for you to fall in love with it the same way I do!”
