DARIEN, CT – With summer almost here, residents are thinking of long days at the beach. A local artist hopes to bring that feeling of being by the sea right into people’s homes.
“Ocean View”, a series of oil paintings by award-winning oil painter Sue Barrasi, is on display at Darien’s Geary Gallery by the end of the month.
Barrasi, who is based in Rockland County, NY, has been painting seascapes for 40 years. She has received numerous ribbons for her work, as well as grants and residencies, and is an active member of the Oil Painters of America, the Salmagundi Club, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters of America, the American Artist Professional League, and is a life. member of the Art Students League.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, Barrasi has found herself going into the ocean more. She put deadlines and errands aside and needed a place to go to relax. She decided to put on a show with her seascapes, and Tom and Anne Geary, owners of Geary Gallery, welcomed her work.
“For me, I’m very comfortable with the ocean. I always feel like it makes me breathe, and soothes my soul. I love to paint, so marry the two, and if I can bring the feeling that it gives me into people’s homes, that feeling of calm and serenity, so it’s wonderful,” Barrasi said. “I think people want to surround themselves with things that put them at ease. comfortable and at peace.”
Seascapes feature water scenes from Maine to Florida, and there are approximately 13 pieces of varying sizes on display at the Geary Gallery.
“For me, the ocean is always different, it’s always changing. I’ll go out there in the snow,” Barrasi said. “Whenever there’s a window to run to the ocean, I’m there.”
The Geary Gallery is located at 576 Boston Post Road and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
